DART XP PRO
Last updated: December 2007
Dart XP Pro, version 1.1.6, $199 to register. The download file runs as a demo, no time limit but it won’t process more than 2 minutes of a file, won’t record to a CD and Direct-X plug-ins don’t work.
The download file name is Dartxppro.exe, file size is 6.3 MB.
To work on sdemo1, I tried this: Restore | DeClick Plus (using the default presets) removed the clicks and pops but left the surface noise hiss. (Dart XP Pro has a feature called “registering” and it asks if you want to register the file. Registering builds a “tree” structure of files to make it easier to go back and do restoration steps over. I find it a bit confusing so I don’t use this feature. The result of trying something is just stored in “result.wav” so you do have to keep track of what you are doing.) Then I tried Restore | DeNoise Plus on the result.wav file after taking a noise print from the start of result.wav. This removed the hiss but added an underwater sound artifact. So I ran Restore | DeHiss Plus on result.wav and that did a very good job.
I have found that version 1.1.6 does not run properly under Windows 98SE® (on four different computers). I’ve reported it to DartPro but they have apparently not fixed it yet. I’m using version 1.1.5 under Windows 98SE® and 1.1.6 under Windows 2000®.
As of December 2007 the current version is still 1.1.6 so it would seem they aren’t too interested in customer service. Yes, the program works but I have other tools in my toolbox that are easier to use so I don’t plan to upgrade to Dart XP Pro 24.
